Essay --
1. Introduction Globalization has incurred dramatic transformation to commerce practices around the globe. Corporations like Intel, Apple, and IBM have begun to outsource experts from different parts of the globe, reasoning variation in firmââ¬â¢s structures and work shifts (Bernstein, Kripalani and Engardio, 2004). Consolidation between airlines (e.g., sky alliances, on world members and star alliances) is further instances of variations caused due to this phenomenon. According to Jean de la Croix (2011), like many other industries, hospitality and tourism sector has also been affected by the globalization. Hence, this dissertation peruses the impacts of globalization on 5 star luxury hotels in Geneva city, Switzerland with a specific concern on how it impacts the hotels marketing strategy. In this etude, ââ¬Å"globalizationâ⬠reflects on the procedure of augmenting cultural and social relationship, economic, and political interdependence, market and financial accretion that are due to th e advancements in transportation technologies, communication, and business liberation (Lenway and Eden, 2002) This dissertation contains of 2 relevant etudes. The first study is designed to investigate the impacts of globalization in the marketing strategy of 5 star hotels in Geneva and the second study investigates the link between the impacts of globalization and the scale of corporate marketing and international marketing implementation of the 5 star hotels. As international business and trade expand, there is no doubt that international connections will become more and more significant for the hotel industry. According to Zhang Zhen (2005), in the late decades, many hotels have received foreign customers one day or another. Then, as the sector evolve... ...n indicator was lately developed by collaboration between EDS Corporation and Foreign Policy Magazine (Foreign Policy, 2004). In this dissertation, the impacts of globalization are divided into two broad groups: 1) global market threats, and 2) worldwide market opportunities. These two important impacts are chosen in order to be perused as they are often mentioned in the past literature as one of the most certain and evident impacts of globalization (e.g., Molle & Jones, 2003; Smith & Calantone, 1999; Closs, 1992). Many believe that global market results in increases in market, business and enterprise potential and availability to the resources (Srivatava & Rukert, 1990; Smith & Calantone, 1999). However, some other like Heenan, 1989 and Jones, 2002; believe that global market results in an increase in the number and level of competition, and the degree of doubt.

web dubois :: essays research papers
WEB DUBOIS WEB Dubois was born and raised in Barrington, Massachusetts. After high school and with the help of friends and family, and a scholarship he received to Fisk College (now University), he eagerly to Nashville, Tennessee to further his education. This was his first trip south. And during his stay there, his knowledge of the race problem became clearer. He saw discrimination in ways he never dreamed of, and developed a determination to expedite the emancipation of his people. Consequently, he became a writer, editor, and an impassioned orator. And in the process, acquired a belligerent attitude toward the color bar. While he was teaching an Atlanta University, Dubois wrote about and studied Negro morality and Negro urbanization. During this period a controversy grew between DuBois and Booker T. Washington, which later grew into a bitter personal battle. Washington argued the Black people should temporarily forego "political power, insistence on civil rights, and higher education of Negro youth. They should concentrate all their energies on industrial education." DuBois believed in the higher education of a "Talented Tenth" who through their knowledge of modern culture could guide the American Negro into a higher civilization. (DuBoisââ¬â¢ Dusk of Dawn). When Dubois began to solicit help for ââ¬Å"organized determination and aggressive action on the part of men who believe in Negro freedom and growthâ⬠, twenty-nine men from fourteen states answered the call in Buffalo, New York. Five months later in January of 1906 the "Niagara Movement" was formed. Its objectives were to advocate civil justice and abolish caste discrimination. Though they were criticized for their radicalism, this was the first significant black organized protest movement of the twentieth century. The downfall of the group was attributed to public accusations of fraud and deceit engineered presumably by Washington advocates. In 1909 most members of the Niagara Movement merged with some white liberals and thus the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was born. DuBois was not altogether pleased with the group but agreed to stay on as Director of Publications and Research. He was also editor in chief of its publication â⠬Å"the crisis for more than 20 years. He used his mighty pen to denounce racial injustice all over the country and grew more and more popular. This period marked the height of DuBois' popularity. The Crisis magazine subscription rate had grown from 1000 in 1909 to over 10,000 in May of 1919.

The impact that athletics has had on my Life à à à à à The impact that athletics has had on my life is everything. It made me a better person. For example it made me to be more responsible, focus, and more determined to accomplish my goals. à à à à à Ever since I became being an athlete Iââ¬â¢ve learned that thereââ¬â¢s responsibility. Japanese Language
8 Tips to learn to speak Japanese effectively Tip 1: Attend Japanese classes If you are just starting out learning Japanese, I suggest that it is best you attend some basic Japanese courses at a local language school in your country. That is because the foundation of the language is so important that if you screw up in the beginning, it will drag you down when you move forward to the intermediate or advanced classes. You will always have to refer back the materials in the basic classes.I have seen many people suffered from their weak foundation and have to give up learning eventually because they couldn't cope with the progress of the lessons. Conclusion? At least build a strong foundation by attending basic classes at a school. The native Japanese teacher there can help to correct your mistakes. You will appreciate a lot when you advance to higher levels. Tip 2: Japanese Learning Software I understand many people cannot commit to attend a regular class.Maybe because they have irregu lar working hours, need to travel overseas frequently due to works, unable to pay the school fees for long terms due to financial issues, or many other personal reasons. In that case, the best alternative is to learn through Japanese learning software like theRocket Japanese, where you can learn to speak Japanese at your own pace and time. This is because it is an online course and therefore you can plan to learn according to your own schedule, anytime, anywhere, so long you have an internet connection. The single reason that I recommend this online software is because it provides one great feature (Rocket Record) that you can use to match your voice to that of the Japanese native's voice in order to perfect your Japanese pronunciation. While your pronunciation can be corrected by a teacher in a classroom, it's impossible to know whether your pronunciation is correct if you were to study by yourself. With this recording feature, now you can simply practise speaking Japanese until you r pronunciation is perfect, all at your own pace. This is the greatest benefit of using Rocket Japanese.I have also done a review on Rocket Japanese. Do check out the page. Tip 3: Stay in Japan I will say this is by far the most effective way if you really want to accelerate the learning progress. ââ¬Å"Immerseâ⬠yourself in the total Japanese environment and you will have a big boost to your speaking ability. You are not only learning Japanese in Japan, you are in fact living and blending in the everyday life of Japan. In such environment, you will be forced to speak Japanese, write Japanese, and even think in Japanese if you need to react fast.If you can stay in this environment for at least a year, your Japanese proficiency will be greatly improved. And that is much faster than study the language in your own country, which doesn't provide such conducive environment. There are 2 ways, in my opinion, that enable you to move to Japan. 1. Find a job in Japan so that you can sta y there for a longer term, say 1 to 2 years. One good option is to join the JET program (The Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme) and teach your local language (such as English, etc) in Japan. . If you cannot commit to work in Japan, try enrol and study in a short term language course for at least 3 months. However this is also the most expensive way as the living standard in Japan is considerably high as compare to most countries. Tip 4: Work in a Japanese company This is a great way to learn to speak Japanese for free in your own country while you are working. It might be the next best way if you are unable to go to Japan. The key here is to surround yourself with Japanese-speaking people, natives or non-natives.And a Japanese-speaking environment is the best you can get to improve your language. Depending on your position, if you are lucky, you might get the chance to go to Japan for trainings. Make full use of the opportunity, know some Japanese colleagues and friends over the re. Keep in contact with them when you are back home by exchanging emails, communicating using skype or msn, in Japanese of course. If your colleagues or friends want to learn your native language, both parties can then teach each other your own languages, which is beneficial to both of you. This is a more economical way to learn to speak Japanese. Tip 5: Make more Japanese friends If you cannot afford to go to Japan, another way is to know some native Japanese friends in your own country. Check out if there is a Japanese community in the place where you reside in. Get to know the people in the community and learn to speak Japanese with them. These people come to your country due to work or other reasons, so there is a high chance they can speak your native language.Tip 6: Join the activities organized by Japanese Association If there is a Japanese Association near your place, it is wise to join the activities that are organized by the association. The association normally holds many activities to help the locals to learn to speak Japanese. These activities include dialogue sessions with native Japanese, speech contests, Japanese language courses and other cultural activities, aiming to foster the relationship with the local people, as well as helping the locals to appreciate the beauty of the language.Tip 7: Watch Japanese News ââ¬Å"If you cannot listen well, you cannot speak wellâ⬠. This is the golden rule when learning a new language. Listening is always the ââ¬Å"killingâ⬠subject in many languages, especially true in the case of Japanese. I am no exception. Listening has always been my weakest field. In order to overcome this, I make it a point to listen to the news in Japanese everyday. One of the online news sites that I often visit is the TBS News. Over there you can watch the videos and listen to the short summaries of news in Japan.Choose the topic that interest you most, listen to it without first looking at the written script to test ho w much you can understand. It is very important not to look at the script first so that it will force you to get used to listening the language without reading the content. Another reason is to make you concentrate on the listening part. Repeat listening to the same piece of news for a few times until you are sure that you cannot get anything more from it. You then look at the script and listen to the audio again for another few times to clarify those that you don't understand. If you can do this continuously for a few months, you will realize that your listening skill improves tremendously. While this is a good method to improve your listening skill, I only recommend you to do this when you reach the advanced level, or at least intermediate level as the scripts are all written in kanji, hiragana and katakana. If not you will have problem understanding the scripts and get overwhelmed and feel demoralized. Tip 8: Watch Japanese Drama Listening to the news trains you on the formal Japa nese speaking but you may get bored on the topics.Listening to the drama may be much more relevant because dramas are more related to our everyday life as the actors/actresses speak in more casual way. Similar to watching the news, don't look at the subtitles while watching the drama because it not only distracts you from listening to the dialogues in the drama, you will grow more dependent on the subtitles and that will do you more harm than good. Conclusion If you can follow some of the tips I mentioned above, I believe they will help you a lot on learning to speak Japanese in a more effective way

Impact World War Two Had on Trinidad
Arielle Spann 00033827 History 210 CRN 35943 How has World War II impacted on Trinidad and Tobago? This essay explores the impact of World War II on the development of Trinidad and Tobago. World War II played a very important role in the development of Trinidad and Tobago in terms of social, cultural, economic and political changes. World War II began in the year 1939 and continued to the year of 1945 in which the Allies that consisted of Britain, Soviet Union and the US, defeated the Axis powers that included Germany, Italy and Japan.World War II began in September of 1939 when Britain and France declared war on Germany following the Germany's invasion of Poland. Although the outbreak of war was triggered by Germany's invasion of Poland, the causes of the war were more complex. Based on my research there were four main reasons why there was a World War II. These include that of the Treaty of Versailles. In 1919, Lloyd George of England, Orlando of Italy, Clemenceau of France and Woo drow Wilson from the US met to discuss how Germany would pay for the damages that World War I had caused. The German people were very unhappy about the treaty and thought that it was too harsh. They then voted for a man who would have ripped the treaty apart. This led to the second reason which was Adolf Hitlerââ¬â¢s action (see figure 1). Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany in January 1933. Almost immediately he began secretly building up Germany's army and weapons. In 1934 he had increased the size of the army; he began building warships and created a German air force. The third reason was the Failure of Appeasement.Appeasement meant giving into someone, provided their demands are seen as reasonable. During the 1930s, many politicians in both Britain and France came to see that the terms of the Treaty of Versailles had placed many restrictions on Germany that were unfair. The fourth reason was the Failure of the League of Nations. The League of Nations was an international organisation set up in 1919 to help keep world peace. This failed due to a number of reasons: not all countries had joined, it had no power, no army and it was unable to act quickly. FIGURE 1 http://ahitler. reyfalcon. us/ FIGURE 1 http://ahitler. greyfalcon. us/ Before World War II had occurred, Trinidad and Tobago faced an unprecedented situation. It was the time of the great depression. The great depression was a time where a worldwide economic downturn had begun. It started in 1929 and lasted until about 1939. This caused many problems in Trinidad and Tobago. Working conditions had become extremely difficult where slaves had to work long hours and little pay. Workers where paid 35cents a day, this proved to have being insufficient because of the climbing inflation rates.Unemployment had reached an enormous height of 20%. At this time, health conditions were very poor. Infant mortality rate had reached 127 persons per thousand and the hookworm epidemic had infected close to 80% of the population in rural communities. Malaria had become prevalent due to the disease carried on the female mosquito. Remember, working condition was unfair and little money was paid. This led to extensive malnutrition in the population because money paid was not enough to buy the required food for proper health. Poor housing conditions were also prevalent.Worker houses had become extensively bad in quality and not easy to live in. The houses on the sugar estates and oilfields were said to be dilapidated and lacked sanitary conditions. This meant that the houses were in a state of disrepair or ruin as a result of age or neglect. Toilets, washing facilities, changing rooms and a place for rest were inadequate. This led to the formation of the Shanty Town in Sea Lots located in Port of Spain, Trinidad. The struggle for survival had led to the labour riots of 1937, which was led by Grenadian born Tubal Uriah ââ¬Å"Buzzâ⬠Butler. The labour riots of 1937 led to the establishment of the Moyne Commission, which was set up to deal with the grievances of the workers about their working conditions and poor living conditions. The Moyne Commission found that Trinidad workers lived in inhumane conditions and made recommendations on what should be done. This was established in the year 1938 by Lord Moyne and completed its report in 1940. It was very critical of the British colonial system in the Caribbean. The Moyne commission recommended housing construction, agricultural iversification, more representative government for the islands, and the promotion of a middle class in preparation for eventual self-government. Although the Moyne Commission's findings were not made public until after World War II, some of its recommendations were put into effect under the Colonial Development Welfare Act of 1940. Although World War II did not hit Trinidad directly, it showed signs of the impact that led to the further development of Trinidad. Impacts in the social, cultural, pol itical and economic were felt nationwide.Historians argued that World War II led to a modern Trinidad; hence there were many different types of people who inhabited sweet Trinidad. Trinidad played an important role in the war: it was the convoy assembly point for the dispatch of tankers from the Caribbean oil ports across the Atlantic to North America and Europe (A history of modern Trinidad 1783-1962, Bridget Brereton, pg. 191). The first impact I will be writing about is the social impact on the development of Trinidad and Tobago. The social impact has to do with how society was impacted or changed due to further development of Trinidad and Tobago and World War II. World War II had led to the destruction of the myth of white supremacy. The US occupation demolished this myth of white supremacy because at this time, white men were seen doing manual labour and were seen displaying behaviours unfit to the white people. By this, I mean, the white men were seen engaging in drunken behavi ours. During this time, a lot of people moved to Trinidad and because of this, the white men had taken the roles of a field worker. The rich people and Trinidadians, at this time would have gone through a period of cognitive dissonance because they were not accustomed to seeing people of their same colour doing manual labour and behaving like hooligans. They laughed and mocked the drunken or bad behaviours of the sailors. One person that aided in the demolition of this white supremacy myth was named Ulric Cross. Ulric Cross was born in the year 1917. He was of African descent (see figure 2) and because of his involvement in World War II, his achievements led to the breakdown of this myth.In 1941, Ulric Cross had made a decision to join the Royal Air Force (see figure 3), which was one of the branches of the army, fighting in the war. He had performed greatly to such an extent that he soon after decided to join another branch of the same army. This branch was known as the elite pathfi nder squadron of Mosquito Bombers. Because of his high achievements, Ulric Cross was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Distinguished Service Order. FIGURE 2 http://francesannesolomon. net/in-development/ulric-cross/ FIGURE 2 http://francesannesolomon. net/in-development/ulric-cross/What was the cultural impact on the development of Trinidad and Tobago during World War II? First I will be dealing with the entertainment industry. In 1941-1945 the carnival celebrations were banned. This was due to the unruly behaviours of individuals and some feared of possible uprising. Security measures also led to the banning of carnival between these four years. During this time, many patrons had remained in their backyards experimenting on metal instruments with the making of tins and pans. This was done to help in the making of instrument s that could play different notes and popular tunes. From this process, steel pans were manufactured into being. It was done by Winston ââ¬Å"Spree â⬠Simon and Neville Jules, where they would use biscuit pans and margarine pans, and tune it to the notes of music. In 1946 an oil drum was used and experimented on, and it was found that it could produce a concave pan (see figure 4). It was founded by someone by the name of Elliot ââ¬Å"Elleâ⬠Mannette. Soon after, steel pan had become an integral part of the carnival celebrations. At this time were carnival was banned, indoor entertainment had bloomed. This was because people were no longer allowed or given permission to parade in the streets, so indoor entertainment were one of the few things that was accepted for leisure. FIGURE 3 http://www. topnews. in/asianorigin-raf-medic-sues-british-military-paki-and-terrorist-jibe-cover-2213305 FIGURE 3 http://www. topnews. in/asianorigin-raf-medic-sues-british-military-paki-and-terrorist-jibe-cover-2213305 The appearance of most individual give rise to the term ââ¬Å"saga-boyâ⬠. This is simply a person that was said to b e a playboy. It is a person who dresses with extreme style and very fashion forward.Their hairstyle would be one of a side part and muff, the style of dress was totally different. The saga-boyââ¬â¢s apparel was one of a high-waist pants, wide legged with a tight cuff at the bottom, trousers and a long coat with lapels. Lapels are the part on each side of a coat or jacket immediately below the collar which is folded back on either FIGURE 4 http://www. forumgarden. com/forums/fashion-clothing/56381-mens-vintage-roars-life-zoot-suit-cost-much-bmw. html FIGURE 4 http://www. forumgarden. com/forums/fashion-clothing/56381-mens-vintage-roars-life-zoot-suit-cost-much-bmw. html side of the front opening. These were known as zoot suits (see figure 4). One of the cultural impacts was the rise of prostitution. Prostitution is the practice or occupation of engaging in sex with someone for payment. It is also defined by the oxford dictionary as ââ¬Å"the corrupt use of one's talents for person al or financial gain. â⬠World War II had led to this rise in prostitution because of the large amounts of individual in uniform that maintain money and was willing to exchange it for sex or anything of the sexual nature. In 1945, British and Canadian men were around 33,640 men in uniform and the US had about 70,800 men in uniform.Sexual behaviours were a great means of relaxation. Many patrons were involved in the exchange of money for sex and this led to a massive increase of sexually transmitted diseases. Most common were those of gonorrhoea and syphilis. Statistics show that new cases of gonorrhoea rose from about 573 in the year 1940 to about 3,445 in the year 1941. This shows that the amount of new cases of gonorrhoea was multiplied by around six (6) times the original amount, all within twelve months. Although these diseases were becoming an epidemic in society, it gave way for calypsos by artists such as The Mighty Sparrow and Lord Invader. One of the popular calypso son gs by Lord Invader called the Yankee Dollar. This song simply portrays how the Yankees come to Trinidad and the girls and mothers (prostitutes) like them because they paid them more money and treated them better. Another popular calypso that was sung by the Mighty Sparrow was called Jean and Danah. This song portrays basically the same meaning as the song Yankee Dollar. It portrays women working on a corner, selling their bodies for money and if they are broke, you could buy sex at a cheaper rate. World War II also impacted Trinidad with the introduction of gambling and crime.Gambling dens were established and this in return gave favour to crime. Boysie Singh was one of the more prevalent mobsters that reigned over Trinidad. In the 1940ââ¬â¢s, Boysie Singh had established gambling clubs and houses were men can visit prostitutes in Queens Street located in Port of Spain. He had a reputation of murdering around 400 persons in cold blood. His crimes of gang and drug related murders were reported almost daily in the national press. Yet, itââ¬â¢s said that Boysie Singh once held the world record for the number of murders he was believed to have committed.During this period of World War II, mass amounts of immigration occurred. Immigration was the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country. Immigrants came from Barbados, Grenada and Europe. Many from Europe were fleeing or running away from cities such as Hans, Stechers and Tauchers. The reason they came to Trinidad was based on the liberal immigration policy. This states that it was ok for people to come and stay in Trinidad based on work. If you were employed as a worker in Trinidad, you were allowed to stay and live. What was the economic impact on the development of Trinidad and Tobago during World War II?The first economic impact I would be discussing is the rate of employment. During this period of war, there was a boom in employment. Workers left their field work, cocoa and sugar to becom e employed on the bases for the army. The unemployment rate had decrease to about 80% due to the construction of the bases. Around 30,000 individuals were employed which added up to be about 20% of the workers in Trinidad. This employment boom due to the base led to a mass shortage in the sugar industry. In 1939, it was recorded that the amount of workers had accumulated to about 30,000.This soon decreased with a count of 18,000 workers in the year 1943. In next year of 1944, the work population had gone back up to 21,000 workers in the sugar industry. Many workers left their former jobs to work at the bases because of the benefits. It was seen that at the base, it was cleaner and the wages were more attractive. Wages were paid around 2s. Per day and were at least doubled for workers at the base. During World War II many of the young bankers were enlisted in the Canadian and British armed forces and had to go for the call of duty. This was a problem for banks because now, there were shortages in staff. They asked themselves how they would fill the gap of the shortage. One brilliant person must have suggested hiring female workers. This is how females began to work, but before this time, females were not allowed to work because it was not part of the role as a woman in society. So to fill the gap, female workers were hired but, they were not seen. The employers would have placed them in the back ground or back offices where no one could have seen them. In 1945, during the time of war, RBC consisted approximately 71% of staff members were females. Trade had also shifted in a different direction.USA became the trading partner with Trinidad because the U-boat threat had become unreliable with the supplies needed. Due to this, Britain was replaced. The U-boat threat were said to be German submarines, or U-Boats, that threatened Canadian merchant ships carrying troops and supplies to Britain. Britainââ¬â¢s war efforts depended on this support. Before World War II (1936-1939) the UK had represented 37% of the imports and USA had 34% of the imports in Trinidad. In the time of World War II (1944), the UK represented a mere 11% of imports and the USA had climbed to a height of 59% of the imports in Trinidad. The import/export trade had become unreliable and this made an impact on the food situation. At this time food supplies had become scarce and there was a need for something to be done. A system of food rationing had begun to take effect in Trinidad because of its scarcity. Food rationing is the controlled distribution of scarce resources, goods, or services. Rationing controls the size of the ration that one's allotted portion of the resources being distributed on a particular day or at a particular time. Although the food rationing was introduce, the import bill had increase from the amount of 34. million in the years 1939 to an overwhelming 40 million in the year 1940. This was said to be a sign of increased economic activity. It was a good thing Trinidad produced their own food and crops as this helped them to maintain the society during this time. Property prices and rent payments had gone up during the years of the war. In the years 1939-1945, rent had increased from $80. 00 to $500. 00 per month and the cheaper places to stay like flat houses had also increased from $25. 00 to $80. 00. This, I think was due to the high level of immigration that was taking place.Another factor that could have led to this was the Yankees that would come to Trinidad to spend holidays and go again. Another economic impact World War II had on the development of Trinidad was the transfer of technology. World War II played a very important role in the transferring of new technologies and skills into Trinidad. The Yankees had bought with them bulldozers that would help with work. Bulldozes would have done the same amount of work men would take weeks to complete in a matter of minutes. Because of the new technologies and skills, the constr uction industry was never the same again. Finally! What was the political impact on the development of Trinidad and Tobago during World War II? World War II led to decolonization. Decolonization is the action of changing from colonial to an independent status. After World War II, Britain had become bankrupt and began to promote self- government in the Commonwealth. Commonwealth means an independent country. Eric Williams and Norman Manley agreed for a federation as a means of gaining independence. Because of this, the British West Indies (BWI) federation was established. In the late 1950ââ¬â¢s and early 1960ââ¬â¢s, Eric Williams and Norman Manley sought for self- determination as independent states. In conclusion, this essay looked at the impacts of World War II on the development of Trinidad and Tobago. Details were discussed about the social, economic, political and cultural impacts that shaped Trinidad into the place where we live in today. Although Trinidad was not directly hit during World War II, significant research has shown the extent to which Trinidad was impacted. The Beginning of a New Life
In the fall of 2011, I moved to Buffalo, New York and took two years to get here. I do not regret anything. I arrived knowing nothing and speaking English was not the same as when I was twelve when I was studying in Tampa, FL. Some people may think itââ¬â¢s funny that I came here not knowing the woman I was to live with. My mother was happy but scared at the same time that I was going to a city that I did not know and almost alone, without close relatives or even friends. But one that does not risk does not succeed. Many are wondering just what brought me to Buffalo, NY. I left a place with plenty of sunshine, beautiful beaches and lots of fun to a place that winter is. I met my wife on a social networking site. It was crazy, but I prepared my destination. In my country, I was unemployed and the place where I worked gave up my services and I could not find work. I started receiving unemployment benefits. I liked being at home all day. When I met my wife on the social network, we began to write and then we exchanged the phone numbers. After two months I moved to Buffalo to start a new life. She already had a child and I had no children at the moment. I talked to my mother about it and told me that if I felt happy doing that she supported me. In the following days I looked for information of Buffalo and buy a ticket, pack and what needed for the trip. But first I decided to visit my dad in Florida because he had not seen in a long time. So my trip began on October 29, 2011 to Lake City, FL. Lake City is a beautiful place with friendly people and almost everyone knows each other, because it is a small town and there are few places that have entertainment. When I was there first time in the year 2002, there was almost nothing, just some parks, five disco bars, and where all young people share a lot after going to the movies or the clubs â⬠¦ Wal-Mart. On arrival, I was surprised it did not seem much a small town because it had evolved. To my surprise, there were several shopping centers, had many more stores than eleven years ago. The small town was not small, was now a bigger city and productive, with more opportunities to grow personally and economically professionals. But despite the new city that I came by surprise, people still the same, kind, respectful and generous as ever. I spent three weeks with my father who taught me new things that had built. I left fascinated and I said to myself: ââ¬Å"I want to return with my new family but to stay and make a new life here with them, they will achieve it one day. â⬠I felt motivated to move forward in my life and have a major future for me and my family. I wanted to go to that city, but had a new beginning, a new life, a new future ahead you had to structure. I begin my journey to a strange city. I didnââ¬â¢t come by plane; I wanted to travel by bus, so begins the journey to Buffalo, New York. In the driving time I made several stops, but I had my mind occupied with things like the city, everything will be fine, get quick work, I will be happy, and I was increasingly reflective. The trip was about eighteen hours and I could not sleep. When I reached this city, my new love and my stepson received me happily and lovingly, and I was very happy, but at the same time I felt strange and disoriented and did not know anything about this city. It was night when I get to Buffalo, New York. I came to my new home, I took a bath and went to bed and said, ââ¬Å"Tomorrow is my beginning of a new life. â⬠The next day when I woke up, I felt strange, but I could not get for later, this was my first, so I decided to do it. So I got dressed and started to explore the city. It was cold; in a few days would be Thanksgiving Day. I was committed to finding jobs, but it was hard, because my English is not the same as before, but I donââ¬â¢t give up. After several attempts and several weeks ago I received a call from an employment agency. I started at a famer market Jose Disaderio, but in few weeks they laid me off, and employment agencies know. But I'm not discouraged at all. I spent Christmas and New Years with family. After several days my girlfriend gave me the news that I was father for the first time in my life. I was on clouds, like a dream that I wake.

Paleolithic to Neolithic change over time Essay
During the sixth century in India, an Indian prince named Siddhartha Gautama renounced his status and wealth in order to become enlightened. After becoming enlightened he announced the principals of what he believed was going to be the new way of life, Buddhism. Some many years later, Buddhism found its way into China. And while many peasants saw a positive impact in the incoming way of life, many people with higher statuses did not. Many peasants and people of lower class supported this new teaching because it gave them something more to believe in, like an afterlife, rather than Confucianism which was stricter and did not have an afterlife. According to tradition, the Four Noble Truths explain how in ones life you can take the suffering you are born with and make something out of it. This is a positive outlook because it teaches people that there is a way to end the sorrow in ones life. (doc. 1) Along with peasants, many Chinese scholars believed in Buddhism. When asked their opinion on Buddhism, some of them replied with the opinion that Buddhism exceeded any other teachings like Confucianism. In document 3 a scholar says ââ¬Å"To compare the sages to Buddha is like comparing a white deer to a unicorn.â⬠This comparison made is clearly a positive outlook in that compared to an ordinary deer, a unicorn, which is representing Buddhism, is so marvelous and exotic. This same scholar also shows in his response that Buddhism is a simple way of life, and to some (mostly monks) things like wives and property are the luxuries of the world not needed to complete ones life. This proves that Buddhism is an easy-going, simple way of living that could appeal to many. (doc. 3) In the early 9th century, a Buddhist scholar by the name of Zong Mi expressed his opinion that all of the sages (Confucius, Laozi, and Buddha) were all perfect teachings for the time being. In his opinion all3 teachings led to an orderly society. I agree with Zong Mi in saying that each time period has different needs and demands, so a new teaching for each time period is wise in that they each meet the specific demands of that time period. (doc. 5) Although many lower class people supported Buddhism, many of the higher people did not because the fear that people would break away from Confucianism was present. Rulers want to be in complete power, and a new teaching that is severing that order could cause chaos in the rulers mind.à Also, Buddhism compared to Confucianism is very laid back and easy-going. Confucianismââ¬â¢s a lot stricter and if people do not live in fear of this strict code what is going to prevent them from revolting? An official in the Tang imperial court by the name of Han Yu expressed his opinion on Buddhism to be very negative. He demands that Buddhism is to be ââ¬Å"rooted out, and late generations spared this delusion.â⬠He also views Buddhism as being no more than a cult of barbarians, because it was not here in ancient times. I do not agree with his statement in that many things were not here in the past but are here today. For example, the cell phone. The cell phone was not here 50 years ago, but is here today and can be used for emergencies and better our safety in this world. Just because something is new does not mean it is evil or barbaric. However I do agree with the statement made that says ââ¬Å"The Buddhaâ⬠¦who did not speak Chinese and who wore clothes of a different fashionâ⬠¦and the Buddhas manner of dress did not conform to our laws.â⬠I agree with this because Buddhism is a way of life, these new teachings would impact peoples lives daily. So if this Buddha is an alien, a person who is not from here how could he possibly understand our laws and fit our needs? Although its not bad to try new things, I understand the hesitance of people to believe in something so foreign. (doc. 4) Supporting an earlier statement that rulers did not want a change, Emperor Wu, in the edict of Buddhism explains how Buddhism has ââ¬Å"Injured mankindâ⬠. He states that ââ¬Å"Buddhism wears out the peoples strengths, pilfers their wealth, causes people to abandon their lords and parents for the company of teachers, and severs man and wife with its monastic decrees. In destroying law and injuring humankind indeed nothing surpasses this doctrine!â⬠This shows that he thinks Buddhism has many negative impacts on everyoneââ¬â¢s lives and this evil should be eradicated. (doc. 6) An additional document that would help me prove positive and negative points in this essay would most likely be something in the point of view of a peasant. Seeing a view of a peasant in this time period would help support my theory that peasants liked Buddhism, or help prove me wrong in that they did not. Seeing a document like this would also help me understand why people would choose a rough and strict teaching like Confucianism over an easy way of life like Buddhism. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, neither is wrong nor right. However in the sixth century China when Buddhism was first introduced there was a split mindset of how things should be run. Most people of lower class appealed to this new teaching of Buddhism while many people of higher classes believed that Buddhism should be eradicated because of its true barbaric and evilness. Neither opinion is right, yet neither opinion is wrong. Change Over Time Courtney Morelli Mrs. McCaffrey period 3 Between the years 10,000 and 3,000 BCE many changes occurred. The way of life was altered for many people with new ideas, technologies and ways of life. But along with these changes some things remained the same through this time period. Just like todays society, it is changing in many ways but still keeping in touch with old ways or traditions. Before the Neolithic Age occurred, there was a time period called the Paleolithic Age. During the Paleolithic Age (2500000 BCE ââ¬â 8,000 BCE) the way of life was hunting and gathering. People relied on hunting and gathering as their food source, therefore they moved from place to place never really settling in one spot. The men usually had the job of hunting for food, and the women had the role of gathering plants and berries and taking care of the children. Therefore, the women had an equal role to the men and were treated just the same. The people of the Paleolithic age expressed their life in not words, but art. They painted along the walls of caves showing things like hunting, or different animals that were around. After a long period of time the climate of places all over the world changed drastically, allowing the change from Paleolithic to Neolithic happen. The Neolithic age lasted from 10,000 BCE to 3,000 BCE, and many changes occurred. The Neolithic man started to plant crops now that the climate wasà warmer and therefore they settled instead of moving from place to place. Now that the people were planting crops they were able to have a good amount of food, and never go hungry through the winter thanks to wheat. Since the people of the Neolithic era no longer needed women to gather foods, they lost their role in society. They were no longer considered equal to men and usually stayed home caring for the children. One of the biggest changes between these time periods is the change from hunting to domesticating animals. Instead of hunting down your next meal people domesticated and raised their own animals like goats and pigs. Keeping these animals close by made it easier for people to eat. Although, the agricultural way of life was much more complicated than hunting and gathering. Farmers had a much harder lifestyle because they had to work all day as to a hunter would only work until he got what he needed. Along with the many changes over this time period there were also many things that remained the same. One thing that remained the same was in both time periods people relied on animals as their main food source. Hunting was a very important part of the peoples meal, and is still a big part in our diet today. Also, although people in the Neolithic age had more food, the nutritional value was still as low as it was during the Paleolithic age. The men in the Paleolithic age had the job of hunting the animals and providing food for their families which was a big responsibility. Even during the Neolithic age this responsibility for men never changed because they still worked in the fields or domesticated and slaughtered animals for their food. Eventually, over many years every society and culture evolves. Some things change for the better of the people, and come along with new technologies and ways of life just like todayââ¬â¢s culture and people. But along with these new things are also the same values or ways that have been going on for years and years. The Neolithic revolution was one of the biggest turning points in history, because of the many things that changed a way of life for many people. But even though so many things changed, some of the values and traditions always remained the same.
